Life is funny. You think everything is going well then BAM! Something throws you for a loop.
You may starting asking yourself "Why? Why did this have to happen? What did I do to deserve this?"
Now, I am usually always an optimist. I look at things from the bright side and hope for the best. But that can be hard when something that affects your everyday life is altered.
What do you do when that happens? Here's what I do:
1. Have your pity party.
Having a pity party for yourself is important. Let yourself be mad. Let yourself be sad and angry and curse the world. That's healthy. Holding in your emotions to seem calm and cool is not. You're human, let it out.
But, the important part here is to only let your pity party last a few hours max. If you let it go on any longer than that, you'll be stuck in that mindset.
The best way to recover from something you weren't expecting is to sleep it off. It sounds like basic knowledge everyone should know, but it's easy to make rash decisions when you're in the height of your emotions. Take a breath and get a good nights sleep. I promise you will feel better in the morning and have a clearer head.
3. Take A Step Back.
Something bad happened...that's just how life goes. With my optimistic point of view, I like to think everything happens for a reason and there is a lesson in everything that happens.
So, take a step back, and look at the situation from a different point of view. What can you do to make it better? How can you turn this around? Write it down, plan it out.
4. Take Action
Once you've had your time to examine the situation and make a plan of attack, it's time to take action.
Do not hesitate on taking action. For me, this needs to happen the next day. The longer you wait, the worse the situation will get usually. This is why it's important to get your pity party over with and put on your big girl/boy pants. The world won't stop for you.
"Tough times never last, but tough people do."
Tough times are a part of life, but they are what build us up and make us stronger. We need them even though we don't like them. Remember: you're stronger than you think.
