I’m going into my senior year of college. Typing those words is still surreal, yet exciting. The past four years have flown by so quickly but I still can’t help but feel cheesy when I tell freshman, “It’s going to go by so fast.” In these last few years, I have added a major, dropped a minor, gone to Ireland, made friends for a lifetime, and learned so much, I could fill 20 spiral notebooks easily. Here are five things I’m glad I’ve done in college.
1.Study what YOU want to study
A lot of students feel pressure from their parents to study what they want, but there is nothing more important than doing what YOU want. You’re the one who is going to be studying and doing all the work for this degree for four years, so you might as well make it something you are interested in. Passion is more important than the dollar sign.
2. Take chances
College is most likely going to be the first time a lot of kids are on their own. For me, just moving away from home and going to college was taking a chance. But, doing things like joining a club you normally wouldn’t, or going on an interview for an internship you think you don’t have the experience for is all part of college and growing as a person. Long story short: push away fear and turn it into courage and going for what you want.
3. Do as much as you can
Join every club you can, go to all the games you can, go to parties, meet people and have so much fun! Real life will be here before you know it and these memories will last you a life time. Keep a journal, blog or photo album to remember all these times. You will thank yourself ten times over in the future.
4. Study abroad
Studying abroad to Ireland was probably one of the best things I’ve ever done while in college. While I was only gone for a little more than a week, this trip still let me experience a new place and different culture while also getting credits I needed for school. The memories and friends I have gained from that trip will always be with me in my heart.
5. Write about everything and take pictures!
Keeping a journal/album is a great way to remember all the things you’ve experienced while in college. Like I said earlier in this article, these are the best times of your life and being able to look back on them later will be something you will always cherish!
With all of that said, I will repeat again, I can’t believe my senior year is here. I know from the last fews years that this year will go by before I know it and soon, I’ll be walking across the stage.
Until next time,
